114 miles on a 300rr's single tank of gas!

Semi Dual Sported my 300rr over the last two days in Vermont. I'll post upsome video soon.

The first day we started with a real technical trail that was only made worse with wet leaves hiding everything. From there we hit mostly smooth dirt roads with a few trails sprinkled in. We wended up with 73 miles for that day. My bike ran great, but I was really geared wrong for this ride with the 50t rear sprocket. I also discovered an issue with my Midwest Lever. I thought my clutch was starting to slip. Apparently I had the lever adjusted so that it had constant pressure on the clutch. With a cold motor, I think the oil was thick enough to mask my poor adjustment. I was bumming out because I thought my ride was going to be cut short. Once I backed off the set screw, my bike ran great and didn't miss a beat. She just wasn't happy with speeds above 50-52mph.

Day 2 was more or less smooth dirt roads with beautiful scenery. Only a couple of challenging trail sections but nothing extreme. I ended up with some range anxiety like someone driving an electric car. I pushed the reserve for a solid 20-25 miles but we made it back. Shocked, we went 114 miles. Not that 114 miles is a crazy distance, but a 2stroke with a stock tank and no fuel top offs. I'd say it's impressive.

Oh...and I need to get my suspension set up properly. Holy harsh. The front end want to wash out on me in the rough stuff. I should have played with the compression, but I'm a dummy. It's sprung right for me. I just need it revalved and setup appropriately.

My guess is your odometer is set to kilometers. Have a hard time believing 114 miles on a stock tank.

It's not. My buddy on the XR kept mileage and we were within a couple miles of each. He's a pretty active advrider members. Most of the riding was on groomed dirtroads. Easy throttle in 6th gear running about 40-45 mph. If this was trail ridden all day and I was hard on the throttle I don't think I would have gotten half this amount. The first day we ran about 55 miles. I filled up almost gallons of fuel to top off and we went back out for another 18 miles. Yesterday, I filled it full to the top before we set off for the day. Prior to this ride I had told my buddy that I was only going to be good for around 50 miles to a tank based on what I read here. Thankfully I was wrong.

I know not that everything posted on the internet is true. But if you look at my posts, I usually make fun of myself for being a lackluster rider. I don't have anything to brag about that's for sure. I really think it was easy riding and smooth throttle staying out of the high rpm's. Or my bike deserves to be sent back to Beta for dissection.

From my buddies Facebook account.

This is what I had left.

very nice story, pics and info!! sounds just like the sort of ride I want to do in AR. I will certainly plan for 50-60 mile intervals uf possible but good to now there is the potential to extend if needed. I have 250RR with OI. Did you make any jetting changes?

Thanks guys. Chrisnflight, seems like we are getting the similar mileage.

I have the NECJ needle, 162 Main Jet and stock pilot.

I definitely need to change up the gearing.

60 miles to the imperial ( not US ) gallon.

50 MPG US?

If we are saying 190 klm for 9 litres.

There would have to very steady throttle applied at all times.

I had to look up the conversion, but yes. I did about 184 klm to 9 liters (assuming that is what the stock tank holds)
