List of KTM parts that make our betas better...

Postby newbeta » Thu Mar 23, 2017 10:29 am

My 250 rr is a really great bike. Best handling bike I ever have had. However it has under 20 hours in total but already a couple of irritating issues. After reading here and at other places it seems a great fix often is to get the part from KTM. Let's not make this a KTM vs Beta thing, instead let's share info on how parts from KTM (or other manufacturers) made your bike better :)

UPDATE: Included some of the great info from this thread here on the first page to make it easier to read. Many thanks to to Enmerdeur and Dirtdogger300 for contributing. As of now I have only included the info where you guys provided parts numbers (or part numbers that I could easily find). Many parts from Enmerdeurs list I am not sure what years that fit (example cylinder heads or sprockets from KTM), if someone provide accurate info on that I will include it also.

The parts from other bikes that makes our Betars better list
:D

1. O-rings for the cylinder head

Issue? Pressure in the cooling system (even when cold) do to failing Beta OEM O-rings
Fix: Get the O-rings from a KTM
Part numbers (for the 250cc):
0770730020 O-RING 73,00X2,00 VITON
0770105020 O-RING 105,00X2,00 07

2. Airbox clips
Issue? Beta clips tends to break very easily
Fix: Get the KTM Clips
Par numbers:
54806108052 BLIND RIVET 3,3X9,7 GROOVED | 04,
54806008050 QUICK RELEASE-SPRING HANGER.

3. Pipe O-rings
Issue: The Beta/FMF O-rings seems often not to last that long
Fix: KTM Green Viton O-rings last longer
Part number: 0770440030 O-RING 44,00X3,00 VITON

4. Fuel petcock
Issue: Several Beta fuel petcocks seems to have an issue of not being closed when in “off” position.
Fix: First, try to bend the metal plate behind the Philips screws to put more tension on the rubber seal. If that doesn’t work a KTM petcock is a good fit and doesn’t have the same issue.
Part number: 54807004000 GAS COCK ON/OFF/RES 03

5. Banjo front break bolt
“Issue”: The OEM Beta integrated brake sensor aren’t the cleanest looking unit.
Fix: A Yamaha female hex type unit fits and is a low profile unit giving the bike a cleaner look.
Part number: 90401-10172-00 BOLT, UNION

6. Radiator louvers
Issue: Beta radiator louvers are a bit “flimsy”
Fix: KTM units fit right in and are more robust
Part number: 7733503400030

1. KTM RFS radiator louvers are much more robust and are an exact fit.
2. Handlebar mounts are the same as the pre-rubber mounted KTM bar mounts so anything that mounted on a KTM will mount on a Beta
3. KTM ECU's will work in the Beta
4. KTM cylinder heads will fit the Beta
5. Counter-shaft sprockets are the same.
6. The carbon fiber pipe guards that fit KTM fit Beta as well.

Just a few things I've used to improve my 14' 300RR RE. I needed/wanted these parts and ordered all of them from Rocky Mountain ATV when I first got my used Beta. I have provided parts numbers as listed on the Rocky Mountain ATV site.

1. 2003 KTM 250 SX clips for the airbox cover with their ribbed 3mm rivets. The stock Beta clips were broken when I got my bike.
54806108052 BLIND RIVET 3,3X9,7 GROOVED | 04,
54806008050 QUICK RELEASE-SPRING HANGER.
(also from a 2014 KTM 300 XC so they are the same as a 2003 KTM 250 SX and likely other years as well)

2. 2014 KTM 300 XC wide flange screws (male hex with female torx also) for pipe mounting. I can't remember which lengths but you could measure your stock ones and match them up. Rocky Mountain ATV lists the lengths in mm (measure bottom of head to end of screw) in the part description for each type used on the KTM exhaust system.

3. 2014 KTM 300 XC pipe o-rings. They are a green color. They last much longer for me than the red ones that come with the FMF kit.
0770440030 O-RING 44,00X3,00 VITON

4. Yamaha Banjo bolts (female hex type). These make for a very clean, low profile, and more aesthetic look. I ordered a couple from a 2005 yz250 2-stroke to replace the brake sensor type that the bike came with.
90401-10172-00 BOLT, UNION

I tried to provide links to the above parts but when I tested them they kept sending me to a 2017 KTM.

Any particular KTM that you purchased them for - been trying to find out for certain.

At the time I ordered the clips and rivets from a 2003 KTM 250 SX since my buddy had one sitting in my garage to compare to.

From the Rocky Mountain ATV site (for a 2003 250 SX):
8 54806108052 (replaces part #54806008052) BLIND RIVET 3,3X9,7 GROOVED 04 $0.69 $0.62 10+ In-Stock
9 54806008050 QUICK RELEASE-SPRING HANGER $0.99 $0.89 10+ In-Stock
https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/oem-schematic/14

From the Rocky Mountain ATV site (for a 2014 300 XC):
8 54806108052 BLIND RIVET 3,3X9,7 GROOVED | 04 $0.69 $0.62 10+ In-Stock
9 54806008050 QUICK RELEASE-SPRING HANGER $0.99 $0.89 10+ In-Stock
https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/oem-schematic/21

So it appears they are the same clips and rivets throughout many years. The 2017 KTM parts looks to be different.

Great info!

Just completed an order with the KTM o-rings for the pipe.

Regarding the KTM head: does a stock exc 250 head correspond to a beta 250rr stock head?
If so, I guess a 250 Sx head will boost compression and grunt? Those are pretty easy to get hold of and not that expensive even new.

Perhaps crazy but if the head fit many the whole barrel fit too?

I have only swapped heads on the 300 but I would think the 250 would be the same.

I think the barrel might be be a bridge too far. The power valve is different but who knows. Maybe the KTM power valve would work.

It's the little things that get me. like the 2 piece flanged washer and bolt that holds the plastics and fork guards on. I like the ktm 1 piece deals. less parts to loose. a lot of people like to bag on ktm, but they really do their homework for small details like bolt commonality and such.
