The oil drain plug has only an o-ring.

Steel.
I took clutch cover off and ran a magnet down around the bottom and nothing else came out. At the time I didn`t want to pull side cover off and wait on a gasket. I think if a bolt had come off some where, and this was the washer, something would not be working by now.

I hope that it was a washer that fell into the engine during assembly, at 50 hours everything still works perfect.

Did you check the washers (or absence) on the pressure plate bolts?

uh... no, I didn`t think about that. I know all the bolts were there, I can do that this weekend. It`s also kind of shaped funny, more oblong than oval, or sort of looks that way. Looking thru the parts diagram there seems to be nothing shaped like that.

My guess would be a circlip. Judging by size I'd guess from a smaller shaft, like the PV governer/water pump size rather than the trans. I have not looked at the parts list to verify this. It's also possible that it was introduced as an extra during assembly, and there is nothing now missing inside. It had happened on GGs. Guy slips with the circlip pliers, clip goes flying somewhere(in the cases), just grabs another and continues. Shit happens, shouldn't, but it happens.

Scan the parts breakdown and pull the side cover for piece of mind. If it did come from somewhere inside bad things could happen next.

Say rotor, what was the outcome of this? Did your oil plug magnet pick up any more steel bits? Bike still working fine?
