Clutch 300rr 2018

Postby thecat » Thu Aug 24, 2017 1:05 pm

Hi Guys

Rode a local 3 hour hare and hounds here in the Uk last week. Lots of steep hills, bogs and ruts, quite technical in places with much clutch use required.
Has anyone else on the new 2018 models got a noisy clutch, mine was screaming. You could hear it over the engine, and the noise of other bikes.
Its only when your slipping it, and not when your hand is off the lever.
It functioned properly did not fade, and worked just fine. The 18s have a new design and smaller clutch. I stripped it today and all appears normal. I use 10/40 jaso ma2 oil with at least 4 changes from new, and now with 15 hours on the clock.

A friend suggested using auto transmission fluid, so I might try that.

I havent heard this noise at all on the old style clutch on the 17 and previous models.

Can any one help.

Cheers
Phil

ATF is fine for any 2stroke tranny.... AutomaticTransmissionFluid, the wort says it all. Those from abroad, these type have the clutch in the tranny not the engine. 8-)
check all clutch parts
broken piece doesnt loose function but can be loud

I wouldn't use ATF in a gearbox! It has less lubrication and shear properties compared to engine or gearbox oil.
There is not only a clutch in there, but gears and bearings too!
Try another oil, some work a bit better than others. I ride my clutch hard and never had that problem.

ATF is a quick fix for old gasgas gearboxes that had clutch drag, didn't fix anything really, just a bit thinner so less drag.

What do you think automatic transmissions have in them?

Hi, I’m new to Beta just bought a 250rr race edition with low hours.
I’m having same clutch issue. She squeals at me in the tech stuff.
When I first got it it had ATF in it and was worse. Changed oil and put in Motul pro 10/40 gear box oil for 2T
It’s better now but still squeals.
I came from a 2010 GG 300 that I bought this year and it would squeal in the most gnar stuff on hot day then clutch went bad and I replaced it and didn’t squeal rest of the season. Now Beta squealing was wondering if I just need an aftermarket heavier duty clutch?? Any help is appreciated.

I'm coming off a 16 250 race ed and had always used Rotella with no issues. My 19 300 race ed had notchy shifting with the Rotella so I tried Belray but then it started screaming under heavy use. I switched to recommended Motul transoil expert 10w40 in both and have had much better shifting and 0 noise. More expensive than Rotella but much better feel. And before you freak out if you use the Motul, it looks exactly like green antifreeze when you drain it.
