300rr locked up

There is a first time for everything! Idling down a hill this weekend, got to the bottom and bike just cuts off. So, didn't think that much about it as I was ready for a break anyhow. Go to start it back and click with the electric starter. Pull kicker out and it was stuck too! I was like holy sh!?! Bike was running perfectly all day other than the e-start acting up. I thought may be it was the Bendix stuck on the fly wheel some how. Take the stator cover off and pull the Bendix out. There was a lot of metal shavings in there. Put the cover back on and kicker still stuck. So get a tow out go home and start trouble shooting. What I found after a lot of fiddling around was the fly wheel nut had loosened up just enough to let the fly wheel rub on the inside of the stator cover. Had some nice grooves cut in the cover. That is where all the shavings came from. Of course I didn't notice this out on the trail. Tightened the nut up and all is well now. Anybody ever have this happen? Are use supposed to use loctite on it? Just wanted to let you guys and gals know my experience so maybe you can keep it from happening to you.

Original bottom end? Yes, it should have loctite blue on the nut threads

Yes, it is the original bottom end. Bike is a 13 model with 365 hours on it. I did the top end at 200 hours and planned on doing it again at 400 hours. The bike still runs excellent and there is no noticeable loss of power. The first top end I did everything still looked pretty much brand new. Cross hatching still on the cylinder walls and all.

I had that happen on a 1985 Yamaha RZ350 street bike. Flywheel hit the cover while riding and made a hell of a noise. I replaced the bottom end though and must have messed up the job the first time. Second time, I used Loctite on the taper and the nut and torqued to 125% of spec. I'll probably have to remove it with a torch if I ever have to.

Total bummer on a newish bike with a factory installed part. That definitely should not happen.

Probably the same as i have experienced on my 2013 rr300.

No real issue to worry about, takes a little of your time to fix it.
In the first series the flywheel ring is not welded to the flywheel, and it will com off blocking your engine with the friction to the sidecase .

Just hammer it back (easy going round) and (let) it weld to the flywheel.

Thanks for posting the pics as that was exactly the problem I was experiencing with my 13. With a brass drift I was able to push the ring back over a mm and tack welded it myself. Works perfectly now!
