Thanks all! Sounds like the RKtek head lives up to its rep. Adding it to my Christmas wish list...

Just ordered the RK Tek head today for my 300. Has anyone messed with the sprockets to make 1st or 2nd gear a bit more manageable?

Not sure what you mean by manageable, my 14 300RR runs the stock gearing and the spread seems reasonable. The only time first gets used alot is in really steep stuff and that is usually only to get going after having to stop and help someone or when I mess up.

Agree. Most of my riding is in 2nd, and very little low third. Does 2nd gear become more like 1st? It seems like most mention needing to ride a gear or two higher from the extra power...and was just wanting to keep some control of first.

Does anyone know, Is the RK head the same unit as the one Beta sells on their enduro engine parts accessory web page?
Thanks

Took the 300 with RK Tek (13.4) head out for a ride today. I once again, need to iron out the jetting.. First impressions: it’s ok. I guess I was expecting a mind blowing increase in performance and set the bar too high. First gear is just as “usable” as before (13/49), but second feels like I don’t need as much clutch work on decent slope technical climbs.

I thought the rk would have had higher compression than 180. I was expecting around the 200 mark

Yeah, I was kinda surprised to be honest. If the mark on the insert is compression ratio then it should be pretty close to that. :?: I’ve seen the 250’s insert go around 210...but don’t think I’ve seen a comp check on a 300

Edit: After pulling my head out of my ass...185psig’ish is where I should be. Forgot to convert back to psig

I need to revise my comment above about it just being ok. I had just finished riding all day with friends two days before, where she was jetted just about perfect on the stock head. Switching to the RK Tek head and having to learn it’s needs kind of ticked me off enough that I was paying too much attention to that. Today was the second day trying to iron out the wrinkles but played a little more. The extra torque is a lot of fun. I have increased pilot, needle, and main to the next size up and still am lean in a spot causing engine run on after putting it to work. Watching others YouTube videos, listening to their engines, makes me think others have the same issue. I have the N8RG needle coming (recommended by Kels) and am hoping it’s a step in the right direction. However, this is going to murder my mpg. The stock head will probably go back on for longer trips.
