Steering stops!

Postby happy seal » Sun Jun 22, 2014 10:17 am

Holy no turn Batman. Tried to turn the bike around in the garage and the steering stops are a problem. I took them out and removed the nuts that only really create a spacer. I put just the allen head bolt back in and now the right fork hits the right radiator slightly!

Ughhhhhhh!

What are you guys doing about this?

I'm not good at doing the searches. Fyi!

I just let it tap on my EE rad guard. Very slight.

put washers under the bolt until you have the spacing correct

I run a Scott's damper and I had more than enough turning radius and had to shim the bolts as not to over travel the damper. Ride a new GasGas and the Beta will seem like it has a hinge in the middle by comparison.

I took out the nuts, just run the bolts. While the bike feels like it has no turning radius rolling it around, some how in tight woods it turns tighter than my Husky 125 and all the KTM's.

Without a damper you can go much tighter like Knox said with likely just the bolts or maybe a washer. You can get precision shim washers which are better for fine adjustment. Than said, watch the lower clamp where the bolt head contacts. Mine has a pretty good ding/depression from a crash I guess. The contact area is small from the curve of the button head bolt, not a larger flat area to distribute force. I have since bonded small aluminim plates to this area as "pads" to protect the triple from damage and adjusted the stop bolts as needed.

My Fastway damper allows me to run them full in, no washers.

I removed the nuts also and seems to make quite a difference.
