Gear Ratio 250 RR

Postby #88pma » Thu Feb 28, 2019 8:30 am

Hello,

I currently own a KTM 250XC and am looking at the new Beta. Can anyone tell me if the 2019 250 RR RE gear ratio is closer to the XC or XCW? I did a search and could not find anything on this. If it has been gone over please direct me where to find it.

Thanks for your help.

On paper the Beta appears to be geared on the lower side compared to the KTM. I do not truly understand the numbers though. Looking at your signature you had a 300 XCW and 300 RR. How do they compare? Can you short shift the Beta or do you need to bring the revs up to carry the next gear?

your asking about a 250 in the original topic. I think any 300 you can ride in any gear you want. KTM or Beta.
I have never ridden a KTM nor Beta 250.
Really like my Beta 300.

I had a ‘14 RR250. Once I fitted an S3 head & 13/50 it was a tight s/t weapon that pulled a taller gear well.

Get your squish sorted & for tech s/t or woods riding 13/50 or even 13/49 will be fine.

Hello,

With reference to the 2018 models, the 250RR and the 300RR are geared exactly the same. All the gear ratios and the final drive are the same. I'm only expressing my opinion here, but the 2018's feel like the gearing is very short to me. You can easily be idling along at like 35mph in 6th gear. Top speed however, feels quite limited with the stock USA final drive ratios. For most people, it's not an issue as most people appear to want to gear their bikes down even more, but I lean more toward the gearing they provide for the European models, which are much taller.

Thanks,

Jim

Thanks for everyone's help. I appreciate the link to the manual. Seeing that the top gear is so low I am going to assume the gaps between gearing is close. This is what I prefer. Hopefully I can pull the trigger soon.
