my fun surprise at the first oil change was dropping ~1700ml of oil ! :o

Or Lenny - the dealers fill the oil, as the factory drains them after run-in.

Are you sure about that? Maybe thats what they do with bikes sent overseas but our bikes (2 or 4T) are coming with oil.

You need lots of patience to fill the gearbox with 1700ml though (especially if it is a 2T)......

i got a nice plastic watering can with open spout ready for the change and was like, yeah, this will def hold plenty... then the oil just kept coming, and coming, and coming...

oil came out red, is that normal for a new bike?

i was bummed i rode it for a few hours with that much oil in it. no weeping anywhere, thankfully!

I've bought both crate bikes and recrated bikes, shipped in the USA, and neither came with oil. I think its a requirement. GasGas crates for US bikes are marked "No Fuel, No Oil". Dealer included a Qt. of oil in original sealed container.

Red oil is likely ATF or Belray GearSaver. I've had excellent results with Rotella T6 5W-40W, plus its cheap so I change it a lot. I tend to think though the bike is not that picky about oil.

thanks. i was assuming ATF but good to know BelRay is red as well.

i'm running Amsoil right now, interesting that i've been missing shifts more. not sure if it's me or the oil swap. used to run Spectro SX Clutch Saver in my Husky WR, might go with that from now on in the Beta. decent pricing at my local shop.

MC gear oil is a rip off. Even the 15W-40W Rotella is good and super cheap. I like the syn because its a little easier in gear kick starts when cool.
