Noisy engine??? 2014 300rr

Postby Toshy1 » Wed Aug 07, 2019 12:12 pm

I have a 2014 300rr with 90 hrs on it.
It makes a werring noise like a bad bearing. It's not overly loud but it's there.
I removed the skid plate but the noise was still there.
It makes no difference clutch in or out.
Any suggestions??

Make sure your pipe isn’t rubbing on the rads or guards. Sometimes when pipe o-rings are toast it will make a funny sound as well

Another possibility is a tight chain. It will make the countershaft bearing whir

check the bearing and bushing for the clutch basket. Make sure the clutch basket doesn't rock or have play.

Thanks, I replaced the pipe orings and springs, it is bent a little and may not be sealing. It does rub on the frame slightly.
I'll check that clutch bearing.
I pulled the mag cover and no play in the crank.
I rode for an hour or so and It's definitely something making a bearing like noise.

The bike also hits pretty hard off the bottom making finding traction in wet roots an rocks quite the challenge, any tips to smooth it out??
I set my power valve 2.5 turns in.

fatten up your pilot jet. it'll run a little rich but won't hurt anything. It will help smooth out the bottom end

I’ve found that having a slightly rich pilot and lean needle diameter hardens the hit, leaner pilot and fatter needle diameter softens the hit...but I’m at 1.5 turns out on the PV adjuster.

Can you pinpoint which side of the engine the sound is coming from? Did you check chain tension?

So I fitted a lectron that I had and the bike runs amazing. So crisp and predictable.
But the noise is still there hard tell what side it's from. Chain tension is good and it make sure the noise with engine rpm. Regardless of gear position or clutch in or out. I think I'll have to rip into it to find the culprit
