adding a fan to a 2T

Anyone add a fan to a 250 or 300 rr that has a 3g fuel tank? I can't seem to get my bike to stay cool during certain conditions. The plug looks great, I added the larger coolant impeller and deleted the thermostat. This 2019 seems to run hotter than my 2017 did. Even before I made any changes the to the bike it would push coolant out after a race or during. Some of the really long hillclimbs at Stix and Stones were too much for it. Even though I was moving at a good clip the high revs for prolonged time still led to the bike pushing coolant out. I also added a cap that doesn't release pressure until a higher temp that stock. Currently jetted with a JD jet kit per their instructions. Bike runs great, throttle response is great...just get too hot.

Anyway, I am not a fan of spending $170 for the Beta fan kit because I can make the bracket myself and I know the fans are cheap. If someone has installed a Beta fan with the 3G tank please let me know. I'm wondering if it will fit, if it does I might just spend the money for the kit to simplify things. The fan and tank on my 390 are very close...too close IMO

Obviously you push a bike much harder than I do anymore and in reading your post you have most likely replaced the coolant during your upgrades but in the event you have not flushed the system I would offer that you give that a go. The reason a flush could be required may be due to chemicals utilized in the manufacture of the radiators, this was discovered by an Australian dealer who had a number of bikes puking out coolant and the flush did the job.

You are correct, I have changed the coolant many times but I have not flushed it. What is a good procedure for flushing the coolant? Is there a liquid made for this?

I would think changing coolant multiple times would take care of it, truthfully I really don't know. Most flushings involve tap water for a period of time then distilled water to make sure minerals from the tap water is displaced, but there maybe better info out there.

Does the bike overheat with the stock tank? If not then it's just an airflow problem and a fan should fix it. Easier to diagnose than ripping the cooling system apart.

I had considered that as a possibility. The 3gallon tank covers the motor a lot more and comes down right behind the radiator on both sides. Air could be flowing through the radiator but stopping at the tank.

I have the IMS 2.9 gallon tank on my '18 XT. It fit's fine with the fan on it (my fan is OEM). It also hardly ever gets hot. If the "3" tank is the same? You wont have a problem.

Good to know, thanks. Does your fan ever turn on?

Actually I think it has come on just once in the 30 hours of use. Does your bike have a thermostat? Have you checked it for correct operation?
