Xtrainer knocking sound

Postby Coleman » Tue Nov 19, 2019 6:14 pm

Alright so recently my 2016 Xtrainer 300 has been having a random knocking sound. I've only noticed it the last month or so and was not to worried about it because it isn't really consistent, it happens often but in no consistent pattern. Sometimes it's there but then it's not, sometimes it's a couple of knocks and clack and sometimes it's just one. Any ideas on what I should check first when I open it up? In the video towards the end is a very obvious knocking sound and although it is continuous in the video it normally doesn't happen that often. Also I put the choke on in the video as it tends to be a bit louder and occur more often with the choke on, although it still happens when I'm riding it. Thank you for your responses.

Sounds like pipe bang to me. Usually caused from being too rich. The fact that it is more consistent with the choke on confirms that for me.

You know I definitely didn't think anything of that but looking up a few videos it could definitely be the issue. I appreciate the response man. Sounds like I need to do some tuning.

I took the video several days ago but I'm pretty sure I took it on a like 10 or so minute ride beforehand just to get it warmed up. It's getting pretty cold where I live so I like to go out and fire it up daily.

If your bike was already warmed up, your idle doesn't sound right. kind of a lean run-on. try turning the air screw in half turn or go up 1 on the pilot jet

+1. If you had already been on a 10 min ride and cleared out the engine, putting the choke on should have dropped the idle rpm. Since it didn’t, I would have to agree that your pilot needs richened up or idle screw turned down. When you start the bike cold with your choke on, the engine rpm will shoot to the moon if too lean.

You might want to check the woodruff key driving the primary gear. I knew of one that was beat up - replacing it made the bike's random knocking sound go away.

i also have this "knock".
spark plug shows just a bit rich, not alot, just a bit.

so what do i do?

turn idle screw down? meaning 1/2 turn "in" (i am guessing clockwise).

thanks,

If you want to lean the idle, turn the screw counter clockwise. Clockwise will make it richer.
