Radiator Cap Temp Guage? Good or Bad?

Postby JASONMILLSMN » Wed Jun 17, 2020 7:13 pm

Radiator Cap Temp Guage??
Has anyone used one of these Tusk brand Radiator Caps with a Temp Guage built in?
Wondering if anyone has had any success (or failure) with them.

It sounds like the stock cap is 1.8 Bar and you can use a 2.0 safely and not overheat.

I have a '16 300RR Race.

Nothing bad to say about it if you don't have a temp reading elsewhere.

I use them on both my two stoke and four stoke enduro's. Never had an issue with them and it is nice to see how hot you are running at a glance.

I have the Tusk temp cap on my 2017 300RR. Now after about 300hrs use on the temp cap all is good.

I tried it with poor results with Myler's aftermarket radiators.
The Tusk cap did not engage well with the Mylers, and started to vent as soon as the bike got up to temperature.

I use the Tusk 2.0 Bar cap/temp gauge on my 16 300 RE, other 300's and a four stroke. Never had an issue with any of them.

I always wondered if the caps worked because the coolant level is just below the fins so the cap is not in contact with the coolant

They provide a reading. I have no idea how accurate they are though. I have the factory installed fan on my RE, and it comes on when the Tusk cap is registering in the red, and goes off when it drops back in the yellow. So even if it is not accurate, it does seem generally to show the relative temp of your fluid.
