Pro Circuit Platinum pipe guard

Postby Potatohead » Sat Jul 18, 2020 8:44 am

Bike is a 2017 300rr Race.

I need a new pipe and am thinking the FMF fatty or the PC Platinum. I've seen a few guards for the fatty but none for the PC. I also want a heavier duty skid plate and am considering a P-tech combo guard of the like....same issue though. What are other PC users doing to protect their pipes?

Don’t get the platinum. The coating easily chips if it takes a hit, almost like it was spray painted on. I have been running the Works for a year and a half now...love it.
There are no pipe guards available for PC pipes on Betas. Just get the pipe repair kit from eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/153968591216.
I use Ospho for rust in the spots I can’t scrub, but using a green Brillo pad on it every now and again keeps it in good shape.

I have been told that the FMF Gnarly is similar to the PC pipe but I haven’t personally used it.

AXP Extreme skid plate works great. You can trim the alternator side so the alternator cover can be removed without removing the skid plate.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't read about the plating issue before. I guess by having the raw pipe and that repair kit....you don't need to worry about the plating where you heat it for a repair. My current pipe has the neck area (between cylinder and expansion chamber) pushed back enough that the frame dented it. Not sure if a CF guard would have done much there. I like your thinking. I do have an oxy setup too....

Just make a jig with the new pipe before you install it. Also, I did have to get some longer bolts for the repair kit.

As far as the plating issue, that was my own experience with the one Platinum I tried. It was a big big dent tho, one of those perfectly placed rocks 15min into its first ride

Oh, also forgot to mention that I removed the PC badge on the pipe. It was actually a rock magnet, and you’ll have to remove it anyways if there is a dent behind it. Since removing it, no dents where it used to be tacked on. Conspiracy? Most likely

The pc pipe fits beneath a p-tech guard. The coating is flakey so keep hard core pressure washers away. Tight squeeze in one area but it still fits.
