oil injection failed 2019 300RR - what needs to be rebuilt?

Postby Cossitt » Mon Aug 03, 2020 12:26 pm

I am considering purchasing a used 2019 300RR. The oil injection failed and the dealer repaired it under warranty. The guy selling it said that the dealer installed a new piston and cylinder. I thought that the bottom end (crank main bearings and connecting rod bearings) were lubricated with oil/gas mixture and would need to be rebuilt too. Or am I wrong and the crank is just in some oil like the transmission?

You are correct, oil is injected into the intake manifold and also lubricates the main crankshaft bearings and the rod bearings. Depending on the duration the injection system was failing and the conditions of the engine during that time (temperature, throttle, revolutions...), the damage can be more severe or not so much, but at least some reduction in lifespan of those bearings is to be expected.

Regards.

I’d stay away from it
‘17 300 RE - gone
‘22 300 RE

Just budget a bottom end rebuilt at $750 and if they won't come down that far - walk away.
