Best Transmission Oil

Hi all,

What is the best transmission oil for the 2-stroke gearbox. I'm currently using Motul but I am finding the false neutral between 3rd and 4th quite a bit so I want to change to a better oil.

Please give me a few options as we don't have all the different oils here in RSA.

Thanks.

I'm happy with Rotella T in all my bikes. My 630s get oil changes at 20h and all 3 of the 2 strokes at 10 to 15 hours.
I buy it in 20l pails.

+1, has been my standard oil for years. I have used Amsoil 0-40W the last couple of changes, only reason being slightly less clutch drag and easier in gear kickstarts. The syn Rotella T6 is JASO MA, same cst@40 deg C viscosity as the Amsoil, and a lot cheaper, so I'll try that next.

Edit: I beleive Shell Rotella is called "Helix" in some other countries, if that helps.

I use the recommended Panolin in my 300 and change it every 20 hours, after the first one at 6. Now at 45.25 hours and 658 miles with clean oil and no problems at all. I used Rotella in the GasGas and it worked fine too.

I change mine every race or every two rides. May be overkill on a 300 with less shifting and clutch, but Rotella is cheap and GG experience has shown trans parts and clutches looked new when torn down after many hrs. I've never even seen Panolin oil sold here anywhere.

I ran the synthetic T6 Rotella 5W-40W in the bike yesterday for the first time, having run the 15W-40W stuff and Amsoil 0W-40W up until now. Very good, zero clutch drag and perfect action, good shifting. At least as good as Amsoil in feel at about half the price.

Beta are recommending Motul so I'm going to try some of their 10W/40 next as I have a local wholesaler who keeps most of the range. I already use their fork oils and I get general 4 stroke oils for fellow riders. American Beta are now shipping 1 litre of their 800 2 stroke oil with new bikes.

Transoil Expert gets some good reviews.

Mfgs recommend who they have a contract with. Motul is good oil just a little ridiculous in price (retail anyway)compared to others that are just as good. Two stroke trans oil is not a big deal, as long as its clutch compatible. I like the lighter weight oil because it minimizes clutch drag for in gear kick starts. I've torn down a few GGs running Rotella and they looked great inside. I see no reason to drop over $10 on a quart of trans oil when a $4 quart does what I want. JMO.

What he said mostly :D I sell Amsoil and have good success with it, including in the graunchy GasGas clutches, but I'm off to Meijer to see if I can find some Rotella. AmBeta has an arrangement where they supply oil with the bikes along with a recommendation of usage in exchange for, at least in part, support of the race teams. The owner's manuals recommendation (and OE fill) is Panolin.
