Idle and oil leak

Postby wynne20 » Thu Jun 18, 2015 1:19 pm

Hey Guys

i picked up my brand new 2015 300rr this week and this night I've been for a blast, couple things I'm concerned about 1) Water leak coming from the water pump does any body else experience this ? 2) I'm unsure if I've done my oil to petrol mixture all to cock, I mixed a 5 litre jerry tank to a ratio of 60:1 (dealer advised) and there's oil coming from the expansion chamber up into the silencer where they both connect within the frame area, has any one else had these small problems ? if its something i can sort myself ill sort it if not ill be making a phone call back to the place i purchased it up.

by the way i'm new to these 2 stroke animals been a 4 stroke user the last 3 years and new to all this 2 stroke craziness. :) :) :) :)

Kind regards

Will.

congrats on new bike..
Oil leak, just put Zip tie on the rubber joint that holds things together.

can you elaborate on the leak from water pump? are you sure it's not from overflow?

Okay I'll try that out :) an it's where the pipe fits to the water pump I've tightened the bolts up and the jubilee clip on the pipe was slightly loose so.ive tightened that up also, it's still persisting to leak I topped the rad just below the recess for the cap of you can imagine

So it is the hose that is leaking coolant?

So is really a zip tie in the exhaust-to-silencer gasket the solution to this oil leak?

Today I realized I've the same problem in my '15 300RR with 6hs of use, this time it was more notorious because it seams something went wrong with my last premix because puked too much oil, also in the silencer end (don't know what happened, supposed to be 50:1 premix, only washed the air filter from the stock). However I recall now that I saw similar, but much less, oil puked in the same place the first time I washed the bike after my first ride.

A picture showing the problem in the link below:

Any suggestion?

Yes zip tie each of the grooves on the rubber boot that connects the silencer to the expansion chamber. This has been an issue with every 2 stroke I have ever owned since they started using this design back in the 80's

Although zip-tieing will cover the problem, I tend to believe that excess oil is a combination of rich jetting, average quality oil and improper alignment of expansion chamber. For the first two its up to you to decide but I suggest to slide rearwards the rubber boot and then loosen (not remove) the two brackets of the exp. chamber (4 bolts) and the two bolts of the silencer and then realign the system taking care that the exp. chamber won't be touching the lower water pump hose. Some times the silencer sits in an angle to the exp. chamber and this prevent good sealing.

Personally I run 2-2,5% premix, very high quality oil and 'normal' (ie a bit rich) jetting and although I have some oil stains, its nothing, compared to the photo.

Breaking-in the new engine also will cause this, as 2-strokes keep excess oil in the cranckase unless WOT is used, at least periodically.

Good, I will Zip tie and revise the alignment of the pipe.

However, something regarding oil changed this time from my last ride. Spooge, smoke, sound was fine and normal in my previous rides, however yesterday was weird since I started the bike from cold, too much smoke, bad combustion, weird sound ...everything was the same, oil, same jetting, actually very same premix, I used before, the only difference between rides was that I removed the air filter for cleaning (first time in this bike), worked it with oil and back into the bike.

Can any wrong work on the air filter cause this? (eg. Over oiledi the filter maybe)
