Valve clearances for 498RR?

Postby Arctra » Sat Mar 15, 2014 10:58 pm

Does anyone know what the valve clearance tolerances are for the 2014 498RR intake and exhaust valves? I see in the manual something about the shim thicknesses, but not what the clearances I need to look for with the feeler gauges.

What did you determine for valve clearances? And at what mileage/engine hours did you find your motor out of spec? Thank you

Valve clearances for the 498 as found in the service manual are

Intake 0.10 to 0.175mm
Exhaust 0.125 to 0.20mm

Sorry to revive this, but: 1) I cannot find the 2014 Service Manual for 4-strokes on the BetaUSA.com site and 2) I cannot find valve clearance specifications in the 2013 and 2015 service manuals. Those service manuals offer a little discussion on shims, but no instructions how to check valves on the bike. I'm checking valves for my first time and need to know some general how-to info + specs. Apologize if this is posted elsewhere, not having any luck finding this information. Thanks!

A bit more detailed info in my Build Thread here - http://www.dirtbikeworld.net/forum/show ... ost1963992

Intake clearances need to be between 0.100mm and 0.175mm.
Exhaust clearances need to be between 0.125mm and 0.200mm.

I believe 10mm shims of KTM and Harley Davidson vRod work in the Beta's too if you can't get the Beta ones. The Beta Australia importer sells single shims so you don't need to buy the whole kit - http://betamotor.com.au/betaenduro/
