2016 350RR dead engine start help?

Postby redrider » Tue Apr 25, 2017 7:56 am

Anyone have any luck getting the 4Ts to start more quickly?
Things I've tried:
Super B Battery----------------slight improvement.
Just past top dead ------------no difference.
Kick together with E-start------no help.
Neutral instead of 2nd---------no diff..

Other things done: Full FMF exhaust, mapped +300, Rekluse 3.0, air filter mesh removed.

Any successful ideas appreciated.

Thanks.

Would love to hear suggestions as well. It makes it tougher to get holeshots for sure.
Thanks

Check the valves? Starting is the 1st thing to go when they wear.

Dead engine starts at Hare Scrambles are almost always timed exactly 1 minute apart from the previous rows. I always watch the clock on my computer rather than the flag...

Only 11 hours on the bike as it's been almost in moth balls the last 10 months. I did have the valves checked by dealer mechanic at 8 hours when I was chasing a deceleration stall problem (finally figured out it was a flawed rekluse wedge....replaced).

I'm dialing in the bike, but it just doesn't start as quickly as other 4Ts on the line. Haven't raced it yet but plan to next week if all goes well.

Can't find much info on it, but a mod talked about by a KTM/Honda shop mechanic was a .5-.8 mm hole drilled in the upper half of the throttle body to improve low rpm air flow and fuel air mix. Not sure how the Synerject injector would deal with that.

Until I figure something out it's guaranteed back 3rd of the pack off the line. Tough since my 300 is a guaranteed top 4 out of the 1st turn.

Great idea using a stop watch for 1 minute interval.

With only 11 hours on it the engine is still pretty tight.

My 350 is just now kickstart-able with 35 hours on the clock (and freshly set valves).

It will get better. I'd think long and hard before I went drilling holes in the throttle body.

Yeah, mine is so tight it almost can't be kick started. Agree totally that it would be a desperate decision to mess with the throttle body and potentially a costly mistake (unless the flaps can be replaced easily). I'm just going to ride the hell out of it for a while and hope it gets better. Good to know it will free up some.

I have a 2016 390 with close to 200 hours on it and I still can't kick start it

my 390 has 4 races on it so far, and it doesn't kick start worth a poop either. It starts better than some of the KTM's on the line, but my 300 was hole shooting SOB, this 390 is not. Sure is cool to have both! Gonna race my 300 this weekend. Super tight and gnarly race! Should be a hoot!!!

I haven't raced my 350 as it's having issues with low rpm acceleration stalls if I'm too quick to snap the throttle. If I roll on the throttle smoothly it doesn't stall, but quick twists cause flameouts fairly often. The bike is amazing otherwise. Going to another mechanic next week.

Yes the 300s are hole shot masters. Mine has been great, but I just moved the start button to my left thumb and now it's crazy quick off the line. I love the 300, so maybe I'll just give up on the 4T experiment.
