I removed the plug in my 2014 498RR last night using this method. I was concerned about torquing the new plug (NGK Laser Iridium LKAR8AI-9) correctly, so I used an angle grinder to reduce a 10mm 1/4" socket hex to a 9mm hex. Then, I used my new 2-24 NM torque wrench (http://a.co/hL8KqY4) to torque it to 17 nm per service manual. The homemade 9mm socket hex was firmly stuck in the Beta tool, so I just put it back in the little tool bag like that and stuck it back in the bike. Bike fired right up.

Mine was stock and had 147 hours on it. It looked great. Perfect brown toasted color, electrode tip, "hook", and porcelain were actually in great shape. I guess the Iridium plugs are supposed to last even longer?

I know this is an old thread but I just ran into this on my 2015 Beta 350rr.

Go to O’Reilley Auto and purchase their 3/8” drive 14mm Thin Wall Deep Well Magnetic Socket. This socket will fit into the spark plug hole and will go in without any issues. You’ll need a 3/8” swivel and a extension and ratchet. The magnetic socket will slip down into the spark plug and hold it for removal and insertion of the spark plug.
Problem solved. Oh yeah, the stock tool sent with the tool kit,,,, throw it away.
