I'm just sharing information I believe is useful to everyone here. I'm not pushing any brand of oil.
There is scientific reasoning and purpose behind oil ratings.

The original poster asked what oil(s) we were running. We were already on the road and once on the road I like to see where it leads.

I was just using thick oils in the RFS engine in the summer. 20w50 and the like. I tried the rotella in it but it was just too thin. The noises that clutch made with the steel basket and z-start pro rekluse. It was a bit loud. I had guys in front of me turning heads wondering what the noise was. I was running that in my GasGas though and it was the best ever. came out as clean as went in, even after 3-4 rides. Almost no clutch drag. Once I find something that makes the clutch happy I'm going to buy a 5 gallon bucket. That should last a while. Just wish it would like my John Deere hyguard trans oil. I use so much at work I wouldn't have to pay for it.

Steve the Beta is not the KTM so it might be fine, the trans side oil temps should be a lot lower as its not used to lube and cool the engine side. Its excellent in the 2stroke Beta trans and I do a lot of dead engine starts using the kicker not the button. Yeah just try it along with JD oil. Its not that big a deal as you change it often anyway, way before it goes out of grade. Even the 15/40W Rotella is good and I think Rekluse recommends that or did at one time. Jim's 100hr + GG trans was flawless when torn down last winter running that. Nothing wrong with MC oils, good stuff. If your an industry guy like Rico and get it cheap why not. But $20/L for us is stupid for how we use it in dirt bikes. UOAs back this up.

See you at the Hammer!

Glenn,

Are you running the same oil (lets just say Rotella 15/40 for discussion sake) for both engine and trans?

I mentioned this on a different topic but the Rotella synthetics are MC rated, except for the 10W-30.

Both synthetic and conventional rotella are JASO rated for motorcycle use....

And I was the one who pointed this out in the earlier thread

I have used Amsoil 0-40 exclusively in just about everything i owned with no motor catastrophe's i even use it in my generators.Plus i have cases of it. Previous owner used Motorex so that is what i will use until next tear down.

Most likely going to swap over to the rotella syn. like I was running on my gas gas. I'm going to try it a few times then see if I can get it by the 5 gal bucket.
