2017 390 RR-S smog canister removal

Postby jlamb4483 » Fri May 26, 2017 7:48 pm

I removed the canister and replaced it with my tool kit. How I did this is by threading in a bolt/zip tie/electrical tape for a good seal into the plastic line coming off the intake. Then re-routed the tank vent into the airbox. I did it this way so if I ever had to hook it back up the lines are right there. Does anyone object to doing it this way? I've read of people removing the nipple off the intake and replacing it with a bolt, and re-routing the tank vent by the shock also.

Thanks

I just bought a 50 states 390RRS, and when it gets hot, it stalls. Out on the trail, I snipped to vent hose and now it runs flawlessly. Stupid EPA.

Yeah, I did read someone posted that the tank vent plugged into the canister reacts negatively (vapor lock or over pressurizes the tank... or both, not sure) and that's why they re-routed the vent elsewhere.

I rode mine yesterday in the bush, all tight 1st/2nd gear stuff. Even got the cooling fan to come on and I had no problems running or re-starting. Great bike!
