My '14 498RR, which I'm fairly sure has nearly identical valve train, has 187 hours and ~5,800 miles on her and I've never had to ADJUST the valves (checked 4 times). It's my desert/dual sport bike and has very rarely been rung out to the rev limiter. One valve is now exactly at the spec limit.

What hr is the first check? I remember reading about it and just haven't rode much yet. Sadly I think I only have 23hrs on my 2016.
