idle adjustment on 2016 350 RR

Postby Sweepea » Thu Aug 23, 2018 6:04 am

Wanted to bump up my idle to help with stalling. The manual indicates where the idle adjustment screw is, but warns that it will void the warranty. I'm way out of warranty, so not concerned about that. What is the problem with bumping up the idle? I even had a dealer tell me that you can change the map to bump up the idle to 3k. Anyone do this? Results?

Thanks.

I had my dealer bump my idle +100 when I bought it. I'm not sure if it actually raises the idle or adds a run-on on closed throttle. Coming off a 2T I didn't care for so much engine braking on closed throttle.

There is no idle adjustment outside of the dealer reflash with +100, +300 options. I've heard of one guy attempting to manually adjust his idle with not good results and Beta USA definitely doesn't recommend attempting this.

The Beta's FI system with stepper motor is designed to reduce engine braking and it's a significant difference compared to previous generation 4-strokes, but takes some adjustment if coming off a 2-stroke.

Beta FI 4-strokes run a richer factory setting than other brands and are very difficult to stall or flameout.

You can do a stepper motor reset by starting the bike, letting it idle for 10 minutes without touching the throttle allowing temps to go up to 215. Shut off bike. This will reset stepper motor and you will have proper idle.

I just checked my 390. it has a normal idle. less than 1000rpm. I assume the +100 map only lessens engine braking on decel

I also have a 2016 350 and have been having horrible flameout issues. I cleaned and re-gapped the plug and ran a tank of injector cleaner through it with no help. I can get it to flameout stopped at idle by just ripping the throttle open. It gets worse when it gets up to temp, and becomes almost impossible to ride through the woods aggressively where you are constantly off and on the throttle. Does anyone have the software/hardware to re-map besides the dealers? What else could be wrong?

What you're reporting is not a common problem with the Betas RR.

have you altered the mechanical position of the butterfly trough the adjusting screw placed on the throttle body?

Nope, haven't touched the butterfly. I have tried to adjust the play on the throttle cable to bump up the idle, but it doesn't work that great. Called my ex-dealer and he says to check the intake boot to make sure it's not loose. Doesn't sound right to me. I really think it's a fuel issue.

Sweatpee, I answered your other query with a suggestion re: battery. Have you considered that yet?

The battery is fully charged and the stator is properly charging. Once started though, the bike does not need the battery to run. Also pulled the plug; looks good, but cleaned and re-gapped it anyway. Still searching for an answer.

Sweatpee, my friends issues were also with a fully charged battery. But a fully charged battery can be at different levels of voltage. My suggestion may sound ridicules but it's a pretty easy thing to try.
