which was does the "belleville spring" go?

Removed the Bellville washer/judder spring from the clutch assembly due to a suggestion that it made the shifting smoother and make it easier to find neutral. Didn't work, only made the clutch grabby. Now I forgot which way the washer goes in; cone in or out?

what bike? you could look up the service manual on beta usa. If its used as a locking type washer the cone would be up, so when you tighten the bolt the washer will collapse causing the bolt to be preloaded.

The manual doesn't show the Belleville close enough to determine up or down unfortunately.

The concave or inward curve goes towards the motor with the convex or outward curve facing towards outside the bike.

The Belleville washers are designed to give a more positive clutch engagement under low-rpm and heavy mid-range loads and stop slipping.

Trying different oils is extremely helpful and definitely makes a difference in clutch engagement on higher torque 4-strokes.

Thanks for the help. Going to try the lighter weight oil next. Finding neutral is an exercise in patience to say the least.

The difficulty in finding neutral is by design. This is to prevent false neutral when riding and accidentally tapping the shifter. KTM did the same years ago on the RFS thumpers.
