2018 390RR-S Throttle Hanging at High Rpm

When I first got my bike, I experienced that the throttle would not close immediately when closing the twist-grip. There wasn't any 'engine braking' for a couple seconds. I was informed by the dealer that this was a Beta trait meant to mitigate 'flame-outs'. While not particularly happy about this, I learned to compensate. I have now had the opportunity to ride the bike at 8000-8800 ft. elevation and the throttle rarely returned to a normal idle. It would 'hang' so high that it was almost unrideable. When I pulled in the clutch, it was reading 5000 RPM!! Hardly anything CLOSE to an idle. Even when it would finally return to a normal idle, as soon as I accelerated, it would hang again.

Has anyone else experienced this condition and know how to correct it? Actually, does anyone know of someone who could reprogram the ECU to completely eliminate this nonsense? I'll take my chances with flame-outs.

For the record, I performed the "reset" procedure before the ride.

Might want to contact another dealer or BetaUSA. They are very helpful and respond pretty quick

Most unusual.....I had a mild hanging idle on my used 480RR.....throttle cable was tight.

I would check play or lack of in the throttle cable first.

I agree with the others. something's not right. I actually had my dealer install a diiferrent map so I would get a little run-on. coming off a 2T I didn't like all the engine braking. I think there are 3 maps available.

might want to check for air leaks. check your air boot clamps and exhaust connections.

When my bike was newer, it is a 2017 500 RR-S, on my rides to work where it would be cooler, and the same with the cooler rides home, my idle would hang, so much that I'd have to stop, turn the bike off, and restart it and every time I did, the idle would go back to normal and stay that way for the remainder of the ride. It has not done it in a long-long time.

I had done the passive reset so many times, mostly by accident as I'd start the bike when cold, like in the freezing cold as I convert the bike into a snowbike with a Camso DTS 129 kit, and I'm sure that with all the passive resets I have done, and the riding in hot, 90+ F degree weather, my motor has learned all the conditions and has adapted itself. I cannot even remember the last time my idle has hung up.

UPDATE: Beta USA approved the replacement of the entire throttle body. They also replaced two wiring harnesses to update the bike to 2019 specifications. This supposedly "adds voltage to the battery and works much better" per Beta.

Subsequent idle tests at both 700 ft. and 7900 ft. elevations show that the issue has been resolved, although I doubt I will be performing another 'reset' right before a ride lest I chance ruining the entire day. Unlike above, turning off the ignition and restarting the bike did NOT resolve the initial problem. I was stuck with a 5000 rpm 'idle' for the entire day!

Get a dealer to check it over, Mine had a lot of high idle/sticking throttle issues. My dealer and Beta took care of it and it was out of warranty. A great dealer goes a long way.

i had to pay for a new throttle body-- caused 3 dnfs this year. pissed off--selling it now

How many hours? Mine had low hrs but was well over a year old and beta replaced my TB due to manufacturing issues.
