Bottom end rebuild on a 350RR

Postby D K » Thu Jan 23, 2020 5:18 pm

Hello

What's the expected life expectancy on a 350 engine?

I'm looking at a used one with around 250 hrs on it. I understand the top end gets done a lot, but I'm more curious about splitting the cases.

thank you in advance

I'm surprised no one has chimed in. I don't think the topends get changed often, unless intake dirt made it's way in or ran at rev limiter often. A leak down test is probably recommended at the hours you have on that topend, but if it were mine, would probably go ahead and perform topend, and inspect rod play at that time. I know there are quite a few that have 400+ hours on original top and bottom end, but are on the 480cc motor. The prior use and ride style could be a factor. All bets are off if the engine was drowned at some point. If it runs great, nothing showing in oil change, no exhaust smoke, and don't plan on racing, I may just ride it, and start planning on topend.

I run the stock Motul 7100 10w40 in crankcase side. I run Castrol Transynd in the clutch/trans side.
