Starter Problem or Battery?

I recently bought a 2012 520 RS and often when you push the starter button it will just click, then on the 2nd or 3rd time hitting the starter button it turns over with no problem. Does this sound like just a weak battery or something else? Does this model have a automatic compression release? I'm still learning about this bike and appreciate the help.

If you haven't done so already, check your battery terminals. Loose terminals are the usual culprit for the click you mention. Loose or dirty terminals don't allow the battery to recharge properly as well.

Thanks I went through all the connections and added electrical conductive grease and it's still doing the same. Just had the battery checked and they said it was ok. Just to eliminate the possibility I bought a new battery.

If you have a LiFe battery and it is cold outside they need heating. To or three "klicks" might be enough.
I started my 300 after 48 hours with an average below 5 deg C and it strugled but power increased by the second.
If your light is connected to the battery a trick is to leave the headlight on for a minute before starting (Only LiFe batteries) to have more power and less damage to the battery.

Yes it has auto decomp. All single 4 strokes do these days.

How many hours on bike?? May be time for a new set of starter brushes.
