2015 beta 250rr jetting for sea level to 2000 feet

Postby little_wing » Sat Aug 20, 2016 6:48 pm

hey all so my bike was running ok but at 1/3 it would gurgle a small bit.
also the carb overflow would drip when on the kick stand.

to me all this means the bike was rich.

so I don't like playing with my carb as I am still learning about carbs and jetting .

I dropped my bike off at the local beta dealer.

in conjunction with another beta dealer they both think that the beta jetting chart is a bit off.

the factory jetting is
1 1/4 turns out
35 slow jet
165 main
NOZK second clip.

they changed the jetting to
1 3/4 turns out
42 slow
175 main
NECJ third clip
and lowered the float

the bike runs so nice I can lug 3rd gear from all the way down at idle and slowly accel to WOT or just crack it wide open and its smooth with no burps or coughs or gurgles.

from what I think I know about jetting the larger the number of the slow jet and the main jet means the larger the hole in the jet..
so did the change make the bike richer??????

I feel that the bike can lug better and also can rip on the pipe better and everything in between
I like the way the bike runs after the change and I trust the beta dealer... I am just trying to understand what the changes did to how the bike runs..

I ride in similar conditions to yours and after changing the jetting my bike rides like yours and I'm really happy with it too.
I run
38pj
165mj
NEDW clip 2
A/S 1.5 turns out
PV 2.5 turns in from flush

The larger jets Would make it richer you would think but maybe the taper of the needle works with the bigger jets differently?
I don't know a lot about jetting though sorry I'm sure someone will chip in with something more helpful :)

I have a RR250 racing ( so no oil injection) MY 2016
Bike is also running rich and is having spooge on the exhaust.
Most trouble is the 4 stroking it does when low load and small throttle opening .
After that it hits hard.
My jetting is still stock and have approx 10 h on the bike now
I have ordered the NEDJ and NEDW needle. Hope this will smooth thing up.
I have read all the jetting threads on the site here but most are for the RR300 and I understand that the 250 needs the jetting more rich.
Suggestions welcome

Start with checking the float level. I had to lower mine too as it was leaking out the overflow and stalling uphill.
Don't know why they don't fix that, it's been an ongoing issue for years.
To test this, ride it down a traffic safe road and turn the fuel tap off, if it starts to run better the float is too high.
On my 300 I had to change the jetting a bit but not much to make it run good. I did put in a NECJ needle in and that helped.

NEDW #2, a/s 1.5, 38p,168m.

This was a very nice setting for me. SL-1000m ASL. 7c-32c.

Change your mix to 32:1, make sure you have a 7 plug. Then follow the 2013 jetting chart.

I think it may have something to do with the angle the carb sits at. Kehin probably sets them from the factory so the float is parallel with the gasket surface, but because of the angle our carbs sit at (along with the late model KTM's) the fuel finds the overflow too quickly, seems the Beta needs them a bit lower....varies from brand to brand

I just set my float so that it is 1-2mm lower than parallel with the gasket surface.

Factory jetting specs @ 1000' runs great!
