I been using the stock J needles on the Beta 250 for years riding 1000'-4000', jetting by the chart. We ride 5000'-7000' a few times a year and I finally tried the NOZK spec's out of the book and it ran much better than just dropping the main and needle.

It seems like allot of guys posting instantly put a larger main in, and then try jet around it, the oem chart is really close if you follow it and just adjust for slight temp changes.

The needle used dictates the main starting point.

So NECJ position #3 didn't check the jets, didn't adjust idle or mixture screw.

Bike runs really nice, no four stroking at cruise settings just bairrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I wonder about my power valve. I have tried screwing it in quarter turn, half, full.. But always go back to flush as it seems to turn the bike into a dog.

Even with it flush it's not the scary rocket people tell you it can be.

Mind you I did own big bore air cooled 2 strokes back in the day that had a power curve that made twisting the throttle like snapping your wife on the arse with a damp dish cloth.
Loose...

Wow, OP, the 250s run best with the the stock needles. You need 35 pilot 1.5 a.s., NOZK 2nd clip, 165 main. Bank it. 38 pilot for winter. Plus if you are running a really rich mixture like 50:1 it just makes things worse. Make sure your plug is a 7, not an 8, the 250 does not like 8s. There should be no hesitation with the aforementioned set up.
