Lectron - 2018 250RR

Postby mrquick68 » Tue Nov 06, 2018 5:39 pm

I've read all the posts on here about Lectrons. I ran a smart carb before (too big for the Beta IMO). I'd like increased fuel mileage and jetting compensation for temps and altitude on my 18 250RR RE. But i don't want to give up the way the bike runs currently. My bike runs great as is, great hit, over-rev, and power. Is the Lectron going to change any of that?

Q: Is the Lectron going to change any of that?
A: Almost certainly.

Here's a recent similar thread over on TT with my comments in favor of Lectron. Others whom I respect don't like it as much as I do.

so half like it, half don't? Not helpful. I ride from 300ft to 8000ft. from 34 degrees to 90 degrees. I'd have to rejet my bike 40 times per season to keep up, or deal with limited range. I was using my 390 for backcountry riding, but i really don't like riding 4Ts in the mountains. I like 2 strokes more for single track, mountain work.

I didn't say "half like it, half don't". I said "some riders like it and some don't", (which is obvious from the other comments in that thread) and then I wrote a lengthy post detailing specifically why I like it for many of the same reasons you mention in your second post above. Sorry if that's not helpful for you.

There are some more firsthand posts from other Beta Lectron riders in this thread. Maybe you'll find something helpful there.

hey, i'm sorry. my posts above made me sound like an arse. Didn't mean that at all - was just answering too quickly, my apologies. I appreciate you posting the thread links too! What i meant by "not helpful" - was that i didn't find the answer i was looking for definitely. I'm afraid this will be on those things where i need to try it out for myself. I know a ton of people that love Lectrons that i race against. Doesn't seem to be slowing any of them down!

No worries. I agree that if you don't find your answer after reading through these threads that you'l probably have to experience it for yourself.

I love mine but am cautious about recommending it as a miracle cure etc. For example I installed mine near the same time as @Enmerdeur, who has way more riding experience than me. After he rode with his for a few weeks he decided he liked the stock carb better and sold the Lectron here.

I spoke with my local rep last night for a half hour on this subject. Ironically, i race against him in the same class too. Good guy, good info. He had a good points to make, and they mostly that the Lectron must be tuned to work. Don't expect to slap it on and be good to go.

I thought I read somewhere that the lectron and the snartcarb were based on similar pricipals. If you didn't like the smartcarb, what makes you think you'll like the lectron?
