Lectron carbs??

Postby mtdirtbag » Wed Jan 28, 2015 12:45 pm

Just doing some research for the 300RR - the few times the Lectron is mentioned they are of the 36mm variety. Is there a reason for this size, or is it due to the fact that our Beta's come with a 36mm carb? The reason I ask is whenever I have run across a discussion regarding these carbs on two strokes it is usually Husky owners and I find a lot utilize a 38mm on 125's. Am I missing something here? It makes sense to use the 36mm since ours come with that size. I'm always open for an education.

TIA, Tom

There is no difference in low end feel 36mm to 38mm, I run a 36mm Lectron because I thought it would give me more down low when I had it on my husky. The only difference is on top the 38mm has more .

This is just pretty much speculation on my part but the low RPM advantage of a smaller carb comes from higher venturi airspeed and better atomization of the fuel. I believe this is negated for the most part on a 2T because the mixture is drawn into the crankcase first then transferred to the combustion chamber.

I believe KTM is still using a 38mm carb on the 125 on up. I have a 200 EXC and was surprised to find out it ran the same carb as the 420 or whatever the concurrent biggest bore was.

Lectrons are said to be good stuff but I've never been able to really dial one in. Interesting tidbit, Kenny Roberts ran Lectrons on his TZ750 road race bike but Yamaha made him pull them off after they found out.

I got the Lectron for my Husky WR 144 because I couldn't make the stock carb happy. The Lectron pretty much eliminated spooge and increased the range of the bike from around 30 miles to slightly better than 40 miles per tank of gas (stock tank riding single track). If I have trouble with the carb on my Beta 300rr I will buy a Lectron for it, but everything I have heard says the stock carb is pretty on target so the Lectron is not on my must buy list.

i would also recommend an APT smart carb. Like a Lectron but increased performance I'm told. A lot of guys really loving them on their KTM 300s. i will probably end up with one on my 300RR by this summer. I will report back if I go this way. I don't mind jetting this bike, pretty easy, but i'd rather set it and forget it. :D

I had a cast 38mm APT on order for my GG, sold the GGs and got the Beta. A couple rides and I canceled the order. Just no need as the bike runs clean jetted by the table for temperature. I see 1000' changes in altitude max here in the east, and never on the same ride. For western mtn. riding where it changes more than that during a ride I could see the value.

I had an APT on order for my orange bike also. I cancelled my order because there's just no way I could see the APT fitting in the Beta. I'm super interested in the Lectron. I posted interest with Motosportz on one but got no response. May have to go to Lectron direct. Anyone know the p/n for the shorty version?

I have been thinking about getting a Lectron myself. Email them or give them a call and let us know how they treated you.

i also had a Lectron on my Husky WR165 and loved it. easy to tune, super smooth power, great milage. i'm sure i'll try one on my 250RR at some point. the milage increase alone is a huge benefit. especially with my small '13 tank.

If your a fan of super smooth power to the ground you will like the Lectron. I run a Sachs shock spring because the coils are thinner than after market allowing maximum clearance between the air boot and the shock spring. The best way to get a hold of Kelly at MotoSportz is to email him or pm him on cafe husky. I bought mine from Lectron direct . Talk to Kevin or David ask for the MotoSportz specked shorty with the 3-2m rod and also get there special made Motion pro cable. Lectron is a great company to deal with. Disclaimer, if you like the SNAP of a two stroke the Lectron is probably not for you as it makes the power band super smooth. If you like a smooth power band that goes deep into the basement and revs out more on the top and gets better fuel mileage you will like the Lectron. My two cents after owning two for the last three years.
