float height

Hi All,

just got my new 2014 300RR home and taking it off the trailer I noticed that entire rear wheel is drenched in gas. I think float level needs to be adjusted.

is there a proper height it should be set at? can it be done without taking carb off completely?

Was the gas turned off? Even with the float height correct if the gas is left on while bouncing down the road you can still leak gas.

But to answer your question, the specification is for the floats to be parallel with the carb body just as it closes the valve.




I adjust mine to be just a little higher off parallel so it shuts off sooner.

Thanks! I left the gas on when I loaded bike on trailer at dealers. I will monitor this for a bit.

I dropped my float level just a smidgen (I know, very precise) when I pulled the stock tank off. Mine dribbled a little each time I stopped on the trail and put it on the kickstand. Stock, it looked just like what the manual indicates.

i have fuel in the skid plate all weekend long , hopefully i just need to adjust the float height

i don't see anything loose, just smell and see full in the skid plate

i am assuming if the float height is not correct it will come out the overflow tube on the bowl and end up in the skid plate area?

I have adjusted several new ones. We have heard several complaints about the stock float height. No biggie though.

Should be a pre ride task for any new bike with a Keihin carb.

I found this in the 2015 owners manual. For our experts, from what you have seen, is this the float height I should be aiming to set?

Not an expert, but my carb floats looked just like that and still dribbled so I moved it down ever so slightly and cured the situation.

The last pic is relative to the newer carbs on the Betas. The other pics are of the older screw top carbs sometimes called Airstryker 1s, or AS1s, but the level should be measured at the angle where the needle just closes as well. Mine is set like the last pic and no problems.
