Get rid of that duck bill drain valve. Cut a triangle shape piece of foam that is a slight compression fit in the air box well. This will allow splash water to drain through and hold dirt from clogging the hole. No, it won't prevent water from entering from the bottom but either will the cover. Let's face it side access air boxes suck for water crossings. I don't ride mine through rivers like I did with some of my older bikes. Get the Twin Air boot cover and wash the air box with the bike. No worries then, just stuff a rag in the boot behind it just in case. Mine has been fine for a couple years, no leaks.
A good mod for the cover my brother did is scrap the clips in favor of clip nuts and stainless button head bolts. Still easy enough to get off and if you add some weather strip in the cover groove there is a much better seal as you can compress it much tighter. Probably help prevent the tabs breaking too as its held tighter.
