300 carb settings uk

Postby ned » Mon Dec 02, 2013 1:23 pm

anybody in the uk got any good tips on carb settings the bike came with a 170 jet in. i have a 165 jet which i am going to try, the power is still coming in hard at mid range, power valve is at 3.5 turns in. last bike a 300 berg had a head mod to lower compression which made the power so soft , any one done anything like this to a beta! thanks

Seems that your bike came already jetted for this time of the year. Don't try the 165, it will be quite lean for winter. Did you check the pilot as well? Std is 35 but it should be 38-40 for winter.

PV @ 3,5 turns is already quite preloaded but you still can try .5 to 1 turn in more. However this will barely let the PV open.
Another way to look at it is to adjust the PV at 1,5=2 turns in . This will make it open sooner which means that the hit will come stronger but earlier.
This might make it easier to control but it depends your riding style. Stock 2.5 turns is the best compromise though....

Hi Ned. I'm up in the Peak District and all I have done is drop the needle 1 clip and hang on!

To be honest, I haven't even had the carb to bits yet to check the jetting. It's just standard and dropping the needle cleaned up a bit of stuttering after it was run in and now I can't fault the jetting. I won't be in a hurry to faff with it any more.

Paul Edmundson suggested the needle drop after about 10 hours running. I test rode his before I bought mine and he claims that is the only change he made to his. And if it's good enough for him.....

Υerbike already has this thing mate ;)

in my '13 300 Racing, I removed it and I guess I've got a little more response everywhere, not sure though because at the same time I put a Scalvini
which did exactly what it was supposed to...

My '14 250, should not have a spacer but I haven't really checked.

just been reading tbm bike mag . there long term test bike a 2013 250 has the same problems as mine, really good bottom end and top end just the mid range feels harsh a uk dealer( did not say what dealer) sorted it out with a 172 main and a change of the needle (but did not say which needle! ) they test rider said it transformed the way the power came in if anyone knows what dealer who sorted it , let me know. looking on a ktm forum it seems lots of 250.300 owners change the needle its the same carb i think. has any 250,300 owners done any carb work thanks

I have a '13 250RR and have been surprised by the power delivery after coming off a 250f. Bottom is very abrupt, then hits hard again in the mid range. I tried turning the PV in further and it seemed to make it worse.
Now I have turned it out to flush if not a little further, and I feel it is much smoother. PV is opening sooner but more gradual. It softens the power off idle which is a good thing in technical conditions, and has a more linear pull through the whole range.
Still has plenty of low end grunt to get up these steep Tennessee hills.
Try it and see what you guys think.

If you are looking at trying a new needle, I would suggest going with the JD Jetting Kit.

Hopefully our local dealer will get his 250 over to JD's shop soon. I love what he did to my 300.
