300rr air filter retainer issue...

Postby doolin64 » Mon May 02, 2016 6:44 am

I posted over at Thumpertalk but I didn't get much of a response. I was reinstalling my cleaned air filter for the first time and had a minor issue. Specifically, it's the aluminum piece that inserts into the filter to hold it in place. The piece is held on by a star washer and tension (not sure of the technical term). That is the piece that fell off on me.

It seems to me you could drill and tap this piece then use a washer and bolt to hold it in place on the aluminum retaining rod.

Has anyone else had an issue with this setup and if so how did you fix it?

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about.

yes. My star washer is loose also. but the tension on it when the filter is installed prohibits the plug from coming off. Just be conscious of it when servicing your filter

Mine fell off long ago.
There is enough pressure on the spring to keep it in place.
