So you were rich and mistaken for being lean then. Now get and try an NECJ in pos #3.

I am getting totally lost in all these needles :D
So I'll just follow the suggestions. I'll order a NECJ but that can take some time ( up to 2 weeks).

Why was the NEDW #2 crisp at small throatlle and NEDJ #3 not ?
I thought NEDJ was a leaner needle then NEDW

I would have told you to put the NECJ in but you didn't list it. I do a crap load of 2 stroke tuning and have yet to see a 250 or 300 with a 36mm carb that needs a W needle for the summer time. 250 MX bike with a 38mm sure.

I ride at sea level in very humid conditions. I tried so many different combinations of needles, clip positions and PJs that I could R&R the carb in less than 8 seconds. I had to go leaner than the NECJ to get rid of the sputtering off idle and up to 1/8th turn. I was watching some drag racing on the idiot box and heard them talking about adjusting their fueling for local humidity levels. I found an internet tool and calculated my Density Altitude to be over 3000'. Once I started jetting for that altitude I had more success with getting my motor to run smoothly.

This is the same jetting I ran in my rr300 2015, but using a 170 main.
I also used the 2007 ktm 250 cdi box.
Also closed the squish to 1.1mm.
As you live in Belgium I would try the oil this bike
is running on Denicol syntec racing at 40.1.
So clean with no smoking.

That's very interesting information. It really throws off the factory jetting charts though. I just ran my Density Altitude and instead of jetting for 850' ASL I need to be closer to 2,200" ASL.

I also tried a tool but I am in the correct range.
I'll check it again when winter is here

New update,
As the new ordered needle hasn't arrived and I had some spare time I tried the original needle again
Second position pilot 38 and 168 main . Bike ran good but was really rich and smoked a lot even when warm.
Next I tried the same setting with the 165 main. Ran even better but I got again the hesistation when whacked open the throattle at low rpm.
Next I changed the pilot to 35 and the main to 168 again. Bike ran really good and strong n the mid and top range but is was 4 stroking at 1/8 opening. Next I tried is main 168 and pilot 38 with the needle clip in #1 position.
Bike ran really good far less smoke and really good responce on the 1/8-1/2 throatlle position.
Only when whacking the gas open in 3-4 th gear with low rpm I get a stutter. Bit more rpm an no issues.
I also checked the plug and it was black with a small hint off dark brown
I hope to receive the new needle soon
