How to drain carb

Postby worstell » Thu Sep 15, 2016 10:09 am

Just got a 2016 250RR and want to play with the jetting. How do you drain the float bowl? I can't see a drain screw on the bottom of the bowl like on 4 strokes I've owned.

This is easiest if the countershaft guard has been removed. Loosen the clamps at the front and back of the carb. Spin the carb top away from you, recognizing that you may need to encourage the vent hoses to move as well. There is a plug on the bottom of the carb with a 17mm hex (iirc) that you turn off to drain the float bowl.

No real need to play with the jetting though - the printed charts from Beta's support page are spot on in most every instance.

Yeah, I was setting the jetting per the Beta chart.

No drain plug? Lame.

The drain plug is the hex bolt on the bottom of the bowl as twowheels already mentioned.
I think that it is 14mm instead of the usual 17 (i did it recently and first wrench I picked was the 17 but it was big.....).

That will work as a drain but it is actually a plug to access changing the main jet.
Not many carbs have a float bowl drain. You simply open the float bowl and dump the gas.

There are a couple of cross drilled holes in the drain/access plug. Once the plug is cracked and backed off a bit they start to drain. The Hammer method never fails though! :D
