2015 300RR anyone tried the JD jet kit?

Postby hooter » Fri Oct 07, 2016 4:48 pm

I just got my 300RR and I haven't noticed any specific problems, but just wondering if anyone could provide feedback on the JD jetting kit.

I ride a 2015 300RR between sea level to maybe 1500 feet.

Does it make sense to buy the kit vs tinkering with individual needles and jets? I'm not a carb guru, and I don't mind paying to buy JD's kit if it makes sense. But maybe it's not necessary?

Save your money. Buy an NECJ for less than $15 instead. In some cases stock is not bad but the NECJ is smoother.

i concur. sea level to 1500 feet too. temperature varying from 20c to 30c. despite there being two needles with different clip positions i couldn't find a sweet spot.... at one point it would be too lean, jump to the next position and i'd get that slight rich burble at low revs which was what i was trying to get ride of.

contacted JD but they just confirmed i was using the 'best' setting already, possibly someone else has had better luck than me though?

Same here, no need for a JD kit.
My bike is very smooth and recreational riding I get 120km out of a tank.
Sea lever here.
38 or 35 pilot jet (35 for hot months here 30C plus)
NECJ needle in middle clip and 165 main jet.

The problem with JD is that the needles are several straight dia sizes apart, and there are no half clip options for fine tuning. Sometimes it just works great, sometimes it's a little off and you will never be able to tweak it in.

Although the Beta jetting chart is fairly good, I was going to try the JD kit again, as I have had great success with them on 4 strokes.
Yet with all the good information on the Suzuki needles I think I will try this route, but not sure where to even start. There is a lot of talk on here about the NECJ, but most of the guys running this needle are at much lower elevations. I live at 5000 ASL and ride between 6000 and 10,000 ASL. (Although this time of year snow is starting to hit the higher areas so now more realistically between 6000 and 8000)
Maybe a NECK or NEDL?

This is my current setup, based on the stock jetting chart:
Needle: N2ZK - 2nd Clip
Main Jet: 162
Pilot Jet: 35
Airscrew: 2 Turns out
Oil: Motul 800 50:1

As the weather gets cooler I will be switching to:
Needle: N2ZJ - 2nd Clip
Main Jet: 165
Pilot Jet: 35
Airscrew: 1.5 Turns out

I have a 2016 300rr and after the recommended 10-15 hours on stock jetting I threw in a jd jet kit. The reason I did that was I don't want to spend my time fiddling around with jets and needles I would rather ride. I ride in Nevada 5000-8000 feet normally but ride sometimes 10-12k. I followed there chart and haven't looked back. I like tinkering on my bike but if I can spend a few bucks and have a close to perfect setup with out spending hours adjusting it's worth it to me

Its not the JD kit, the bike is just easy to jet. Factory chart is decent, Suzuki needles a little cleaner and smoother, but easy to get reasonable results either way. I'm sure it would jet well with other needle families too if you wanted to taylor power delivery. KTM and GG 300s in the past could be a nightmare and the JD kit was many times a big time saver. Now with this bike not as big a deal.

Thanks all, I appreciate the info! Seems a lot of riders have had good results with the NECJ needle, so I'm going to start with that and see how it goes.
