I've run the NECJ in my 300 for 2 rides now and, I ordered a NECW today.

Bike runs great with the NECJ, I'm pretty much at sea level or not far from it and it is pretty warm here mostly.

But I've had a tiny bit of lean warning. Only just. The worst is if you really rev the bike, like BRANNNG! it'll go tonk! as the revs return to idle.

Okay, don't do that. I am guessing the 2 steps richer the NECW is from the NECJ will for one thing still run really nice but I'll have a bit of insurance for cooler weather and elevation.

I probably won't get the needle till early next week, I'm not scared the NECJ will blow the motor up but I will review the mixture screw if I ride this weekend.

I am in Australia where elevation isn't the issue it could be in Europe or North America, we have good fuel here if that makes any difference.

I mostly chug along single trail and hills but I think going 2 steps richer ( still considerably leaner than OEM ) will give me peace of mind.

It's no big expense ( Suzuki needles ) nor is it a difficult job to change.

I'm not piss farting around with jets, it's fine.

NECW is one step richer on dia than NECJ, thats it. I will switch to that needle soon and run it through mid spring here (0 - 1000'). If your running on try going one up one on your pilot.

I'm not exactly sure what you have going on by your description but if it is just when you close the throttle I would be looking at the pilot and if it is under WOT the main would be suspect. As the needle does have an overall effect on jetting, I think if you go to the W you will end up rich at small throttle openings. I rode this weekend at 5C with the NECJ with no sign of lean 1000ASL.

The needle chart I look at say 2 steps, either way it's richer and I think should do the trick.

It didn't do what it does now before I changed the needle. Like I said its 99% right with the NECJ but I think the slightly richer needle will be better. I was advised by an Australian rider on this site regarding this other needle and I think he is correct.

We'll see when I get it.

Get another chart. Its one dia richer. I only use it because we have ethanol fuel, made worse in its "winter blend", and sand for the late season rides/races.

If it goes NECJ NEDJ then NECW isn't that 2 steps? Or is it some this bit is thicker but the same and so the whole thing is redundant?

Whatever it is, it's the NECW I ordered.

It's one step richer on the diameter (4th letter)

I believe the 3rd letter is the taper.

What a tedious pain in the arse.

If you factor in the clip positions how many possible variables could you have for needle tuning?

Too many thats how many.
