Wont Start!!!

Hello All

I have a 15 300 and wont start when cold. I went from stock jetting 38/165 and stock needle in 4th clip from the top to the NECJ needle 3rd from top. It was running too lean where it was with thew NECJ, so I went back to stock jetting to see if that was the starting issue. Well, its not. I checked the pilot to see if its clogged, but its not. The bike gets spark, but there is a fuel issue. Any ideas would be appreciated. Once it gets started its fine

Did you check the choke circuit in the carby?
If that's fine check the reeds.

Need to take the carby off and blow some air trough the choke circuit. It's a while since I had to tamper with this but there is a cold start jet somewhere and the choke assembly comes out. Have a look at this diagram : http://www.keihin-na.com/assets/1/7/pwk_parts.pdf
2B is the choke assembly and 50 the valve which I believe is a jet. When you have it out clean the passages as usual with cleaner and compressed air.
For the reeds, you take the reed block out and visually inspect the petals for damage. After that shine a torch trough it and look for gaps to see if they close properly.

How did you know it was lean with the NECJ if it wouldn't start?

It had a lean condition. Pinging and such. I am leaning towards a broken ring now. Lets of help with it on TT

Wow I read the TT replies and I'm sure you will sort it out through the process of elimination, I'm hoping and looking forward to finding out the reason for this. Good luck with it and keep us informed. Just one thing though are you now getting fuel into the cylinder? as this wasn't clear from the posts and replies. And I know this sounds really silly but when you had the carb out to clean it you didn't leave some rag stuffed into the cylinder side when you put it back on did you?

Thats not silly at all, because many of us have left a rag in the airbox before. But its getting fuel, just wont start. I will check the rings and the reeds today...

Found it! A very stuck ring.....
