It did start and ran good for a while but then it started to ping. Thats when I could tell it was lean, but thats when it was too late.

Beside limiting the blow by past the ring end gaps it also serves to keep the ring ends lined up, out of a port to prevent the ring from snagging. It's possible what you though was pinging was the sound of a ring lightly snagging a port. Pinging should show signs of detonation on the plug and/or piston dome.

Super Techniplate is probably not the best choice for your style of riding. It contains some castor which can gum things up if not ridden hard. That would be my guess as to your stuck ring.
