Necj versus Nedw

Postby david.bergen » Wed Jul 12, 2017 9:04 am

I think it's asked before but can't find the anwer.
What is the difference between Nedw clip #2 versus Necj clip #3
(Jet 168 and pilot 38 keeping them the same. )
Thanks,
David

You do understand that the straight section of these needles is different.

NEDW is one step richer on the straight section diameter and 1/2 clip richer.

Would NECJ #3 be a good choice 5-8k elevation and 70s/80s F temps? Or should I lower to clip #2? Thanks guys

Ps. bike runs GREAT with stock jetting in that environment, but I'm a tinkerer and enjoy testing for better performance, gas mileage, and knowledge of our bikes. I bought the NECJ needle just out of curiosity - nothing is wrong with my bike.

Yes,
Wasn't sure about the. Clip position.
Always ran the nedw #3 in my 2016 250 rr
But it's too hot for it at the moment 25-33°C
Not sure which way to go

So necj #3 versus nedw#3 is a half clip leaner.
Bike is runnig rich with the higher temps.
Thanks for the info.

I run nedh now in the 3rd clip at sea level 90+ degrees out. Nedw in the 3rd clip would probably be ideal, but I like it a little fatter. Gives better throttle response and torque out of corners. You can get away with leaner jetting if you are just riding tight woods or babying the throttle. I was running nedw in the 2nd position and almost cooked a piston.

I have run winter, autumn and spring with the same carb setup.
NEDW clip #3 with 168 and 38 pilot. That is from -5°C till 20°C
Bike always worked vood. Not perfect but good, no spooge , no blue smoke and nice smell off burned off two stroke oil.
Now the weather is even warmer 25-35°C and the bike isn't running that great. Little spooge, blue smoke, black spark plug, little hesitation when opening the throatle completely but bike will pull through it.
Don't know what to do at the moment. Should I change jetting or change clip or needle ?
I also have the NECJ and NEDJ needle. Main jets from 162-170 and pilot 35-40

david , you are in the same bot like i am , for me NECW4 40/170 for 16-22C its spot on , below 16C CW4 42/172 , right now 22C+ tested NEDW3 40/168 its litle bit on the lean side with botom end and mid ,its hesitating a bit , bad response , so i am back to CW4 40/168 the botom mid is back nice strong and great respons , but if i ride to much on botom mid its loads up a bit and a bit of smoke, not to much like the NOZx needles .. btw SL 150m ron95 fuel 1:50 oil ..
