I HAVE NOT done this, so please don't blame me if it doesn't work!!
It is a pain to remove/install but if you shorten the filter cage standoff or center post you "should" get more room.
I would try and remove 1/8" at a time and then reinstall and see if it helps.
I'm sure all XT owners would give a BIG thank you to the first brave sole to try it and report back.
I may try but I just washed and clean my hair, I mean filter.
