Air Filter Cleaning and Oil ?

Postby Yorick » Thu May 10, 2018 5:10 am

When I was racing 2 strokes back in the 80s, we just used decent 2 stroke oil on the air filer, after washing in petrol. But have been looking around and the favourite way now is special air filter cleaner then specialist air filter oil.

Do I really need any specialist stuff ? It's very dusty on this island as the Sahara desert is only 90 miles away

All help appreciated

NoToil. I don't even know how someone can use the petroleum based oils and the smelly cleaners required to clean them.

With NoToil I clean my filters in a small bucket in the kitchen sink. No smell, no fumes, and no worry on disposing of petroleum products properly. NoToil is biodegradable and can go right down the drain.

Agree on the no-toil. There are 2 versions, red & green. Some have had issues with the red breaking down filter glue & the filter falling apart over time. The green stops that, but its thicker. Clean up is great with the no-toil powder.

I used No toil...ONCE. Sucked dirt right through at the 2011 Jack Pine national enduro on a KXF 250. What's crazy is the filter looked half way clean. Dirt sucked right through with no build up on the outside. Removed the filter and the inside of the air boot was coated with dirt. Went back to using Bel-Ray. I now use Maxima. Kerosene to clean out the oil and Dawn dish soap a few times after that. No worries.

The original Oxyclean powder works just as good and is cheaper

I use both No Toil and Motul. The No Toil I use in my Yamaha's it works really well with their system. Everytime I've used No Toil in the Beta it has had issues hence the use of Motul. I'm unsure as to why this happens but I'm not willing to risk my valves to find out.
I use a degreaser to clean my filters well the motul ones anyway, it washes out in water and is heaps nicer to work with than Kero.
