The float really needs adjusting from what we have seen. Normally we try to fuel up around 30 miles. So far that has worked great for us. We did send one carb off to R&B Designs. As far as I know, that is the only Beta carb he had done. It worked very very well and could tell a difference in the throttle response. We also so had the head milled when the carb was done. We were very pleased with the results.

Does all, or any, of this applies to 4T engines?

My fuel consumption has gone from 7l/100km to 8l/100km to 9l/100km. (33.5 - 29.5 - 26 mpg)

On the 390RR, we fill it around 30 miles also. It has hit reserve at 33 miles.

Well, after thinking something was wrong with my carb (38 miles per tank max), I disassembled it to inspect all ports the needle valve seat and rubber. Everything looked pristine! So I adjusted my float to an almost ridiculous angle below level with the carb base and raced it today.

36 miles with a third of a tank left over!!!!! Hellzayess! That's over 50 miles probably for the tank. The track was open grass/sand fields and mostly semi tight flowing woods. Pretty standard Virginia harescamble.

I've read where others have had to adjust the float from factory setting. I've adjusted mine significantly. If your 300 sucks the fuel, adjust the float until it affects WAO then go back a little. Worked for me.

Thats what I get from mine now Walt. I'm really liking that NECJ needle, changes the character of the bike and makes it easier to ride. Still pulls 2nd up the steepest stuff I have here.

As far as the floats, in addition to the level check to make sure they are straight. Mine is fine, but we spent a lot of time in the woods jetting my buddy's 250 GG Sunday. He had checked the float and claimed good, but we couild just not get the bike to clean up without going lean off idle, weird. I pulled the carb and found the floats twisted, so one was level and the other very high. After that things started to fall into place.

  This is a '12 surplus parts special never ending headache. Old screw top AS1 carb. Vibrates like an old 400 CZ even with the new clutch basket and tight mounts. My Beta felt like something out of the future when i got back on it. I can't understand how he rides (and wins) on that thing!
