Thank You Sir :) I got 51 miles on Saturday in a mix of sand and single track chasing a couple A guys around the desert. From what I have read on this thread, my 51 isnt that bad, But I would like better. Its the stock tank, but I need to open it up to see what jets are in it.

We did an 85 mile dual sport/trail ride yesterday, fast flowing sandy trail, two stops at gas stations. I used between 3.5 and 4 gal total, running it pretty hard. My brother, on a '14 300RR jetted exactly the same (NECW needle), used .5-.75 gal more. Only difference is he never fine adjusted his float height. Both bikes ran great, but this course was fairly whooped out in quite a few spots and probably caused more fuel loss in his. Check/adjust your float while your in there.

What are you running for the Pilot ? 38 ?

It looks like you guys are running the NECJ, 38 pilot , 162 main and getting better mileage ? I have never had to adjust float height on any of my bikes. I guess I will have to figure that one out.

Thanks again

For the cooler weather I went to the NECW, one up to a 165 main. I tweak the air screw a little depending how cold it is. If it goes down into the 30s I'd up the main again to a 168. The Beta 300 seems tolerant and does not exhibit obvious lean symptoms, but the richer W dia needle gives a better pull now that the summer heat is gone. Even when temps warmed up into the low 60s it did not seem rich. My bike always liked the 38 pilot better with these needles. This is with 10% ethanol fuel, our only option here. This why I say get the J and W dias and try both. As far as float heights, I never had a Keihin carb that WAS adjusted correctly! Sometimes the float assy is twisted, so check that as well.

Thanks for the advice. I can't seem to get over 38 miles on a stock tank!

Question

While taking my bike in the back of a truck this weekend, I had gas leaking out. The gas was shut off, so I am assuming the float is either stuck or the float level needs to be corrected.

If gas was shut off at the tank you can only leak what is in the bowl. If this starts out high I guess its more prone to leakage, but not a good gauge. I have seen dripped fuel in my truck and I know mine is correct. Just pull the carb, check/adjust and be done.

I just Did some adjusting on my Beta 300 RR race edition last week and took it out. at about 4k ft. I jetted it with the "J" needle. 160 main second clip from the top. Lowered the float height to .9mm. Looped the bottom overflow hose of the carb behind the carb. I got 40-45 mpg. Could have done close to 100 miles that day. I only went 45 miles and used only just over a gallon of fuel. Very happy with the result. I ride at race pace.

I have a '16 RR300 and am getting roughly about 10km per Liter

165 Main
38 Pilot
85 Starter
NECJ Needle (clip 3rd from top)
Air Screw 1 1/4 out

Elevation 0-600m

From stock it was well burbly till I got the Suzuki needle. It's still a little bit rich overall however engine response feels great now. I do see a bit of spoodge out the pipe and the plug is relatively dark from deposits. I see myself leaning it out just a bit in the future to clean it up and that should also help gain a little more distance from the fuel capacity.
