Fuel range

I might try a HS this weekend, on a familiar course but in a different series. Half open and sandy, half moderately tight, generally fast. 2 gal. is a question at this point. This race does not matter so it might be good to see if I can go the distance or run out. :o Figure 2 hrs. I do not have the luxury of a pit crew, and prefer not to pit anyway as my main competition doesn't. This I see as a worst case scenerio so if it works here I should be good for more technical mountain races.

This spring I did a HS on a similar track, but I don't think we did the full two hours as the course was breaking down in areas where the frost had gone away. Talk about holes! I was pleased to see that I had approx. a half gallon or so left over. Good luck, you might be pleasantly surprised.

I suppose it depends on how hard you're twisting the throttle. Dirt Rider or Dirt Bike reported about 35 miles on a stock tank, which is what I'm seeing with the 250. The sand may suck it up, but if it's a flowing course you might be alright. Waffle, waffle I know ...

Reminds me of that great story about the famous NASCAR crew chief, Smokey Yunick. Faced with a new NASCAR rule limiting the size of fuel tanks, Smokey studied the rule book real close and saw it didn't mention anything about the fuel filler line.

When NASCAR finally caught on to the great mileage Smokey's car was achieving between pit stops, they discovered the fuel filler line wrapped around the car's frame and held 11 gallons by itself.

Glenn, how many feet of fuel line can you cram into that empty space above the carb?

Five laps of seven miles each, about 1:45. BSSR in this series is a 1.5 hr race. Rough but flowing course, not much deep sand, just good traction. Not wanting to wait or walk in the woods, I set up a can with a half gallon for a DIY pit stop after three laps. All went well with a big holeshot and lead the first lap until I screwed up and followed an arrow left up from the youth race. Bike is fast! I ran PV at 2t in with the hot map. When I got home I drained a gallon out of the bike! So that mimics Hawkeye's experience exactly. Not a lot of WFO sections so this might have helped.

I got 46 miles before switching to reserve with my '14 250 on my first tank with my SmartCarb installed. Reserve is huge on these Betas!

Was it a bitch to fit? Does it cause the boot to rub the spring? I had one pre-ordered for my GG but cancelled after riding the Beta a few times. Seems like a lot of little hassles reading all the reports, and jetting on this bike is a non issue. Can't argue with those numbers though!

I have a Lectron that is the short version and it barely fits. If I ran anything other than a Sach shock spring it would bee a no go. The coils on the Sachs spring are thinner.

I have the cast 38mm. Fitment was easy. Very tight at the spring. I'll keep an eye on it.
