Jetting... Needles

Postby Rob578 » Sun Aug 02, 2015 1:33 pm

Hey guys,
First post here so don't flame if this question has been beat to death ( I did search ).

Recently bought a 2015 300rr Race. Bike came from the dealer with. 165 main 35 pilot and a N2ZW needle with the clip in the second notch from the top? It is terribly rich right off idle, the spares kit came with a N2ZJ needle which according to the chart is leaner. I tried it with the clip in the middle and went out 2 1/2 turns on the air screw. It's much improved but still not there.

My question is this, I am totally unfamiliar with the needle numbering I'm used to the regular CEL, EEK numbering. I have searched all over for a chart and can't find one. Anyone know what the next leaner needle is? I've seen some posts about using Suzuki needles but I'm riding in Georgia and its 90 degrees and 100% humidity so I doubt that's relevant to my situation.

Thanks for your help

Rob578,
It's absolutely relative to your situation. It's been hot and humid as hell here too for the past couple weekends and the bike runs great. N2ZW is ridiculous in the heat, why did he do that?

Thanks guys, I'll get one on order.

Part of the problem is I can't tell where anyone is from and someone recommending a NECJ could be at 10000 feet in CO for all I know.

I'm in NJ, 0-1K feet. Hammer is in Ontario, similar conditions. The NECJ is just one needle in a large family. You can get different diameters and half clip position variants if needed.

Glenn,
I'm assuming since this is a 4 letter code it's a Suzuki OEM and about impossible to cross to a 3 letter Keihin code. I can't seem to find a table with NECJ group on it. Does one exist?
I appreciate all the help.

Thats exactly right, you can't apply the Keihin codes to OEM special needles. The range of Suzuki needles can be found in the RM250 parts list. In short, there are two lengths, third letter designating either a C or D, with C being a half clip position leaner. Starting diameters range from F(richest) to K(leanest), but all but the W and J can be pretty hard to find. Good news is you won't need them.

Same thing applies to the stock series of needles. The NECJ cleans things up but also smooths the bike out even more off the bottom. I personally think it makes the 300 more ridable in the tight, and you can be more aggressive without the bike biting you.

Rocky Mountain usually has these in stock. Those are the Suzuki part #'s.

Yes I think my brother got his there, for awhile they were scarce though. I think if you bought four needles,(NECJ, NEDJ, NECW, NEDW) you could cover any variable Georgia might throw at you. I have the others if cooler weather dictates a change.
