I have had more issues with coil HV wires over the years than with anything else electrical, but usually when the bike gets older and the bond/seal of the wire to the coil body is compromised. Like Hyde said maybe as simple as your cap not being seated.

I'm throwing in the towel, I've tried different reeds, coil box and CDI control. I'm pretty much out of things to try. Back to the dealer it go's.

Well the jury is still out. The dealer checked all the things I did and determined the electrical system was not the problem. He went back to carburation and found the bike was running rich. So he dropped N2ZJ needle, adjusted the air screw and went back to 35 pilot. I'm going to try needle N8RW this weekend. I know this bike can run smooth, I just have to find the right combination.

Just put a NECJ needle 35 pilot and a 165 to 170 main and be done with it.

What clip setting on the NECJ and position of the air screw?
What elevation do you ride?

Eureka! after some more trial and error, N8RW on the 1st clip position and this bike runs smooth now. I will still try the NECJ when it comes in. THX

The N8Rx series is a half clip leaner than the N2Zx, same profile. Pos #1 seems pretty lean, funny your bike likes that, perhaps the richer dia is now forcing the position to 1. I would try the N8RJ in pos# 2 or 3. I'm up in Oak Ridge and the N2ZJ has been fine. I could go to the N8RJ in mid summer heat but the bike is not that fussy.

To be honest, I shouldn't have to work this hard to get this bike to run good. I can understand a bike that's 10 years old and sat around, but right from the factory, this bike should purr. I have a KTM 200 & 250 both 2009's and these bike's ran perfect out of the box and still do. I've heard some 300's can be a little finicky and I evidently have one, so lean or rich doesn't matter. I just want the bike to run smooth all the way through the throttle. I'm not a guy who is on the pipe all the time, I like to just chug through the trails.
I do appreciate all the input.
